Water storage and usage

Most motor homes and campers have water tanks either under the floor or inside a storage area. Some smaller campers will have portable water storage like in a 10 or 20 liter Jerry can. Depending on the size and number of water tanks you may have somewhere between 60 and 300 litres.
Connected to this will be a water pump and taps (outlets) in the sink, shower area, and possibly external.

Water tanks can be of plastic or stainless steel. Stainless steel is more expensive but avoids issues of plastics. If using plastic it must be of the higher quality potable water standard, and strong enough to be mounted with minimal protection.

Tanks

Water storage tanks must be of a potable water standard and can be made of stainless steel or high quality plastics. The size of the tanks will be determined by your water requirements, space available and tanks currently on the market.
You can get a tank made (in stainless steel) but this adds significantly to the cost which may be justifiable if the layout in the van requires this.
The majority of campers and vans use standard tanks which are about 40, 60 or 80 liters. The way they are mounted will depend on the manufacturer, some are bolted under the floor, others in a sling under them to support them, and some inside a storage compartment on the floor inside a storage compartment.

Pumps

There is a huge range of water pumps that suit motor homes and campers. Make sure you have a 12volt pump that automatically stops when the pressure is high so it turns off when you close the tap.
You can use the one pump to both hot and cold water if it is installed appropriately. Basically this means putting the pump close to the outlet from the water tank and then dividing it to both cold and hot water pipes.

Delivery

The type of taps you install will depend on location, preference, and appearance. Often a mixer tap will be preferred to 2 separate taps, especially in sink and shower positions but where you only need cold water then a single tap is appropriate. If installing an external outlet then the tap needs to be lockable, or secured somehow.
